Title: Reconciling the Irreconcilable
History, both Geopolitical and Personal leave traces in culture and in the psyche which have great effect on contemporary social currents and personality.
Set in modern Berlin and Jerusalem and through the lens of the lives and connection of an isolated, highly skilled baker from Berlin, an Israeli, consulting engineer, and his wife and son. In Jerusalem, we see the effects of history in personality structure, defenses, and sublimations in their current lives. In a further twist of fate we also see how the reaction to loss may present an opportunity to unfreeze pathways to feeling and offer a chance for renewed growth and freedom. Presenter Dr. Steinberg is a twice Past-President of the SEFAPP Board of Directors, a Founding Member of the Board of Directors of SEFFIP and Acting President of the Board since 2013. He was Co-Director of the “Veterans Project of South Florida” 2008-2012, a joint project with the Florida Psychoanalytic Society. He originated “SEFAPP at the Movies” and has presented on the movies “Last Tango in Paris”- What is this thing called Love?,“The House of Sand and Fog”-How free are We?, and moderated at numerous film presentations. He has been a discussant on case presentations at APA Division 39 and SEFAPP and has been a Supervisor and Faculty Member at SEFIPP. Other areas of interest are Clinical Process and Clinical Theory and Technique which he has taught at SEFIPP. He is currently completing his Psychoanalytic Training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in New York City and is in private practice in Boca Raton, Florida.
